Highlight from How Do I Delegate...

All of us have deliverables. It could look like an app, a physical product, or even a service. Sometimes it is even behind the scenes as lines of code that contribute to a small part of a piece of software.

But what about managers? Having been in that role multiple times in my career, what is my deliverable? On a day to day basis, there were reports and presentations, but my company isn't paying me to produce files and documents.

I believe this highlight from Valeria Viana Gusmao is a lens all leaders should be looking through. Building up the people we support should be our measure of success.

The managers we remember fondly throughout our careers are the ones that helped us to grow. We were able to do more after working with them than we expected when we started.

If you have the opportunity to lead people as their manager, remember that helping them to move on to bigger and better things in their career is your deliverable. Some of my best memories are from seeing people I helped early in their career move on to do things I could have never done myself.
